Paradise can be found near to pandemonium in India’s densely crowded cities. Elephants frequently stop by Havelock Island when they’re travelling since it has miles of unbroken shoreline and is bordered by the clear waters of the Andaman Sea. You may relax and paddle in sparkling, turquoise shallows or try your hand at water activities like scuba diving or kayaking on some of Asia’s and the world’s most renowned white-sand, palm-lined beaches.
Havelock Island is the most well-liked tourist destination in the Andaman Islands. It is one of the larger islands in Ritchie’s Archipelago with a length of 41 kilometres. Sir Henry Havelock, a British general stationed in India under the British rule, was honoured with the island’s initial name. To honour the renowned Indian liberation hero Subhash Chandra Bose, the island’s name was changed to Swaraj Dweep by Mr. Narendra Modi in 2018. Radhanagar Beach on Havelock Island was named the Best Beach in Asia by Time magazine in 2004. Additionally, in 2020 the beach was awarded the renowned Blue Flag certificate, which recognises a location for its environmental friendliness and cleanliness.
Havelock Island can also be reached by air, however marine travel is more feasible. Between Port Blair and Neil Island, two nearby islands, there are public and private ferries. Private ferries, on the other hand, are suggested because they are easy to schedule and do not involve standing in queue. You can make them reservations with us to make things easy and worry-free.
Island’s Radhanagar Beach is frequently considered as India’s best beach. It’s a lovely stretch of sand bordered by a clear ocean and verdant foliage. Radhanagar Beach, sometimes referred to as Beach No. 7, has a picture-postcard appearance. The Times Magazine ranks this beach as the seventh best in the entire globe. Not just in Havelock but throughout the entire Andaman Islands, Radhanagar Beach is one of the many attractions.
The palm-tree-lined beach offers guests a serene area in which to relax and take a break. Enjoy walking barefoot and seeing the blue waters sweep over your toes. You’ll be able to rekindle your poetic side due to the peculiar surroundings. It should come as no surprise that you should go to Radhanagar Beach for a mental makeover.
Another attraction at Radhanagar Beach is Neil’s Cove. After walking along the beach for 10 minutes, you will arrive at this site. Beautiful but little-known Neil’s Cove is a lagoon. Additionally, this attraction offers fantastic photo opportunities. However, swimming in the lake is completely prohibited after dusk. Because of all it has to offer, a trip to Radhanagar Beach should definitely be on your bucket list.
Radhanagar Beach is about 12 kilometres from the Havelock Jetty. The best form of transportation for families and large parties is a chauffeured taxi (self-drive cars are not available), while for smaller groups, two-wheelers are recommended (not during monsoons). It is a straightforward one-way street. Cycling there is not for the faint of heart because it is around a 9 km journey from the market. There aren’t many cafes or rest breaks in the centre, either. Only at set times are shared jeeps and public buses available. When you arrive in Havelock, ask at the information counter at the jetty. Ask at the travel desk at your hotel instead.
Large black boulders protrude into the blue water along the Kalapathar beach’s length of white, silky sand. It is situated on one of Havelock’s corners and is an extension of beach No. 5. The beach may be crowded in the summer, but if you walk further south, you’ll be completely alone. A small lodge road leads to a tranquil beach that was once an elephant training camp amid the lush forest. The tides have little effect on the water, making it safe for swimming. When swimming in the ocean, use cautious because there are some pebbles and corals. In Kalapathar, there are a few wooden chairs and umbrellas.
There is a little picnic area with trash cans under the trees. Throughout the season, locals provide fresh coconuts and mango cocktails, but there are no extra amenities.
On Havelock’s south-eastern shore, about 6.5 kilometres from the Havelock jetty, is Kala Pathar beach. Along this path are the majority of the hotels and restaurants. Using a taxi, car, or two-wheeler will allow you to reach the beach swiftly (daily rentals). Because you might not be able to organise transportation from there, it is easier to drive there and back in the same vehicle. The stroll to the beach is lovely.
Private beach Elephant Beach features pristine white sand and blue waters. The beach looks even more wonderful because there are so many old trees along it that they cast a lot of shadows. Since the majority of the beachfront was destroyed by the 2004 tsunami, the beach is sadly only a small portion of what it once was. This is an excellent snorkelling place because the corals are still some of the prettiest on the island and the reef is close to the shore. Since the underwater environment is so amazing, bring your own snorkel. Everyone can choose their own private space, even though it might get crowded, especially during sea walking and snorkelling excursions.
On the crowded beach during prime season, a few vendors sell fresh fruits and coconuts along with a few drinks and snacks. There are no more amenities available other those mentioned above. Snirkelling.
On the western side of Havelock, Elephanta beach is reachable by speedboat or on foot via a jungle trail. In around 20 minutes, the speed boats go from the Havelock jetty to Elephant Beach (8.7 kilometres). For those who don’t mind a 2.5-kilometer journey through the woods, a road emerges on the way to Radhangar beach, and you can use it instead of the boat. No more than 30 minutes should pass throughout this trip. At the entryway, guides are available if you need help. Wear comfortable shoes and bring lots of water.
